Imbibe is one of few companies in the United States capable of providing turnkey retort beverages. Unlike other beverage categories, these products require extensive knowledge of thermal processing conditions to inform both the formulation and production of the finished beverage. Retort involves heat treatment of the liquid in order to deliver shelf stability, and as with any "cooking" process, what you put in tastes different than what you get out. Our beverage scientists understand - at a molecular level - the reactions caused by heat, the subsequent impact on the flavor profile, and most importantly how to compensate for this in the development process. Retort beverages also require the development of FDA approved thermal processes to guarantee shelf stability and microbiological integrity. More than in any other beverage category, expertise in both process and product development is required in order to ensure the ability to scale a beverage from concept to commercialization. Retort products include RTD coffees and cappuccinos, authentic Mexican horchatas, protein based sports performance beverages and meal replacement shakes. Products are available in a variety of glass bottles or steel cans.
